New Horizons for Seniors Program funding to

Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club

August 22, 2019 Delta, BC

Hello, everyone. Thank you for joining me today as we gather on the traditional territory of the Tsawwassen First Nation.

I'm delighted to be here on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Canada’s Minister of Seniors.

I am here to celebrate the awarding of a New Horizons for Seniors Program grant to the Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club.

The Government of Canada values the contribution that seniors have made and continue to make to our communities, our work places and our country.

Today, one in six Canadians is 65 or older.

By 2030, we’re projecting there will be 9.6 million seniors, who will account for nearly a quarter of the Canadian population!

This is good news! It means Canadians are living longer.

That is why we’ve made it our mission to promote social inclusion.
The New Horizons for Seniors Program, also known as the NHSP, is one way our government is doing that.

The community-based stream of the NHSP supports initiatives that encourage seniors to remain involved in their communities, and addresses seniors’ issues.

Projects are led by organizations, like your own Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club, that want to make a difference in seniors’ lives.

I’m proud to say that since 2004, the NHSP has funded more than 23,000 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada, with a total investment of more than $487 million dollars.

As your Member of Parliament, and on behalf of the Government of Canada, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate you in getting this funding to support your Club’s initiatives.

I’d also like to commend Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club for providing the variety of programing and activities you run at this Club.  There is truly something for everyone.

Your work truly enriches the lives of others and strengthens the community here in Delta.

I wish you the very best, and I look forward to seeing seniors in our community benefit this project.

Thank you.
